How are the American Advertising Awards judged?

Three qualified judges evaluate each submission and offer a rating on a 1-100 scale. Gold, Silver and Bronze Honorable Mentions Awards are selected based on score. Overall Best of Show is the highest scoring entry from the competition. Best of Show awards vary each year by category and are based on highest total entry scores after the Overall Best of Show. Judges Choice can be any entry, no matter what that entry scored in the competition.

How do you keep the American Advertising Awards fair?

We choose three vetted judges from similar sized markets outside of our area, who are not personally connected to our local agencies or anyone on the board. These are experienced advertising leaders – typically those with 5-10+ years of experience as creative directors, agency owners or partners, or director level in-house roles at larger companies. Entries are shown to judges anonymously/unlabeled. Judges are not allowed to discuss submissions with each other, they do their scoring privately.

What happens after winning in the Reno Chapter awards?

Submissions that win Gold are automatically forwarded to compete in the District competition, where it will be judged by three new judges. Silver winners are given an option to forward to the District competition for a fee based on single or campaign entry. District level gold winners are similarly forwarded to Nationals.
